More About
Sri Sankatmochan Hanuman Mandir
The Sankatmochan Hanuman Temple, established in the late 16th century by Tulasi under a sacred fig tree (Ficus religiosa), is one of Varanasi’s most revered temples, ranking just after Vishvanatha and Annapurna in spiritual significance. Located in a peaceful, secluded area, the temple offers an ideal setting for religious gatherings, sermons, and devotional activities in its spacious courtyard. Every Tuesday and Saturday, crowds of devotees gather to apply sindur (vermilion) on Lord Hanuman’s idol and offer sweets like laddus, along with tulasi leaves and flowers, while chanting hymns such as the Hanuman Chalisa, Kishkindha, and Sundar Kand. The welcoming atmosphere invites people of all backgrounds to participate in rituals.
Additionally, the temple hosts grand musical performances for five nights following the full moon in March-April, celebrating Hanuman’s birth (Mahavira Jayanti), attracting distinguished artists from across India who honor the sacred city of Kashi through their art.
